Morning all, I hope you've had a lovely weekend and K1s are ready for the 3-hr session.
For this week
Tuesday - No staff meeting, take a breather 😊
Wednesday - The new ESF Head of Education, Chloe Pollack, will come for a visit in the afternoon. She is new to ESF and wants to see all the schools as a starting point. Her position sits under the Director of Education, Mark Blackshaw, as part of the new Education team at ESFC.
School Priorities
I want to start by reiterating one of our school priorities for this year: community building and reconnecting. And it aligns with our top feelings for success at work "Connected and Supported" from our Emotional Culture Deck activity.
The past year, post-covid, has been challenging for everyone, and it has become increasingly important for us to foster a sense of togetherness and support within our school community. Personally, I felt that in the midst of managing my dual-role responsibilities, I didn't have the opportunity to connect with as many of you and the children as I would have liked. This year, I am determined to change that.
I have decided to dedicate some time with the children, starting with the K1s. Over the next two weeks, whenever I can step out of the office, I will be available to support the K1s in any way necessary. Whether it's changing wet clothes, comforting a crying child, or lending a helping hand, please feel free to grab me for support.
Following the time spent with the K1s, I would like to move on to the K2s. I kindly request the K2 teachers to spare a story time for me to visit each class individually. I will share some time options/ schedule with the K2s soon.
With parents, I have scheduled a parent forum on 8 September, where we can come together to have an open and constructive conversation about parent involvement and engagement.
Last but not least, I want to connect with our team. I plan to schedule check-in times later in September.
Let's work together and build a strong community. Please take a look at our working document for school planning and bring your feedback/ideas to next Tuesday's meeting.
Extra School Holiday - 11 December
EDB has set a school holiday after the seventh HK District Council Ordinary Election. The election will be held on 10 December, which means the holiday should be set for Monday, 11 December. On that day all schools should be closed. There will be no make-up day or day in lieu for 11 December.
Going Home Time
For the K1s, we will continue with the same routine from Friday, worked well for the children, it's just the parents/ adults who need to learn how to line up and follow instructions.
As new families are learning the walker/ bus-child protocols - we will hold the buses back until we give them the okay to leave at home to avoid any "unknown" walkers/ bus children. Please double-check if you see any adults/parents standing/waiting around without a child. Similarly, if a walker has no grown-up, we need to check if they should be on the bus instead.
On this same note, please stay onsite until all the children are accounted for - i.e. all the buses are gone, and we've confirmed any walkers left are "truly" walkers. We might need your assistance when there could be a potential mix-up or to help locate a child. Thank you for your understanding on this.
