Absenteeism - Appointment Requests

If you have a specialist appointment during work hours that cannot be scheduled outside of school hours, please be considerate and give the school enough notice if you need to take leave. This will enable us to make the necessary staffing arrangements. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Lion and Dragon Dance @ Bradbury

We will be going to Bradbury School Hall to watch their lion and dragon dance on 7 February at timing below:

  • AM: 9:15-9:35
  • PM: 1:30-1:50

Directions: Back staircase corridor leading to Bradbury's undercover area; take the stairs to GF, through their lobby and into the hall. All classes will be sitting on the floor. K2s go down first, as early as whenever your whole class has arrived. K1s to follow, leaving around 9:05 / 1:20. (We will follow this sequence for all whole school events.)

During the event, we will also have ESF Chinese Advisor Tina Tian do the "eye dotting" ceremony for the performance. Children will be invited to dress in LNY costumes or festive colours, and you are welcome to dress for the occasion too!

PTCs (week 7 and 8)

We have booked supply cover for PTC days. Teachers, please inform CJ of your preference to Zoom from home or school, as they can assist with parent phone calls/ issues on the day. Since we have space limitations, we've decided to utilise the library and resources room for Zoom spaces. Therapy will be relocated outside the resource room for these two weeks, and we would really appreciate it if library book exchanges could be accommodated in your classrooms. We will do our best to provide two extra laptops for book borrowing upstairs.

Collab with Bradbury - Teacher PD Opportunities

As Bradbury and Hillside continue to strengthen our partnership and enhance the transition for our children, Kate and I would like to explore opportunities for teachers to connect and share experiences together. Here are two ideas we are planning to explore after LNY:

  • Teacher lunch connection (Hillside teachers + Y1 Bradbury Teachers)
  • Spend a day at Bradbury/ Hillside

In addition, Kate continues to welcome Hillside children to access Bradbury space. Please let us know if you would like to explore any spaces or resources next door.

Looking forward to next year, we will look at aligning days where they have fewer children on campus (e.g. excursion days, camp week), where we could use their grounds for school events.

Impact of Menopause at Work

Many ESF colleagues attended a recent event offered by the Women Educators Network. Jen also attended and kindly shared her experience with us:

Hello everyone,

I'd like to share my experience attending an amazing talk last week on the topic of the 'Impact of Menopause at Work'. The talk was presented by Lisa Tarquini, a RNutr Licensed Menopause Champion. I'm a follower of Lisa's Instagram page called The Menopause Space, where she shares valuable information and resources to support women going through perimenopause and menopause. She also has a website that offers a Toolkit, which I found particularly helpful in understanding the difference between perimenopause and menopause, as well as providing a symptom checker for identifying perimenopausal symptoms.

I'm truly passionate about this subject and believe it's crucial to normalise open conversations about menopause. In light of that, I'm aiming to create a safe environment for our colleagues at Hillside to come together, share their own experiences, and discuss treatment options for perimenopausal symptoms.

International Women's Day - 8 March 2024

Room to Read presents She Creates Change and have released their official trailer. They have also published a storybook collaborating with Rebel Girls. Please find the PDF version attached.

Room to Read will officially launch the six short stories on the day of IWD. You can find more information on their website. Please feel free to use these resources / short films to celebrate International Women's Day.

Upcoming Dates

Please check our internal calendar below, as we might forget to remind everyone of odd dates. We will continue to add events to the calendar as soon as it's confirmed. Here's the full 2023/24 Calendar
