PTCs (Week 10 and 11)

Since we have space limitations, we’ve decided to utilise the library and resources room for Zoom spaces and EP assessments. Therapy will be relocated to outside the resource room for these two weeks, and we
would really appreciate it if library book exchanges could be accommodated in your classrooms. An extra laptop for book borrowing is available in the office.
Jasmine and Vicky can assist with parent phone calls/ issues on the day.

Here’s the tentative cover schedule:

EAs to Action: Environment Set up / Sensory Play

We are now in the process of designing professional learning for the year that addresses the interests shared through the focus groups earlier, and that also supports teams’ observable impact goals. Given that environmental set-up and sensory play is an area of strong interest and growth, we will be doing some peer learning around this.

In an upcoming PL lunch session, we would love for each EA to share one thing you’ve set up in the classroom, e.g., sensory tray, countertop provocation, etc., and walk us through the materials you’ve chosen, how it’s set up, and how children interacted with it. Please drop a photo of your set-up (just pick one thing!) into this album by this Friday, 1 November. Thank you!

Fire Drill

A heads-up that we planned a fire drill on Wednesday, November 13. Please make a note of this date and review our Evacuation Procedures. The times will be around 9:10 a.m. and 1:20 p.mWe will evacuate to our playground and line up by class.

The auditors are particular about the 6-month requirement, so we have planned our next one for Wednesday, 7 May, to ensure we meet this EDB requirement. Thank you.

Free upcoming PD opportunities:

Webinar "A Future for Education: Why Schools and Teachers Matter" - 5 Nov, 5-6:30pm, on Zoom, sign up on Gateway
  • Reflecting on the future of education has become a favourite genre in the contemporary educational conversation. Surprisingly, many of such reflections envisage a future in which schools and teachers are becoming marginal, in favour of learners and their learning. In this presentation, Prof Gert Biesta will make the case that such a future has more to do with a past we struggled to free ourselves from, and that any future for education crucially depends on taking schools and teachers seriously.

This weekend: The Power of Play Materials (from Free to Play), 26-27 October, no cost, all online.
  • Learn from 16 play-based experts how to bring a robust variety of play materials to nurture and support your student's growth and development and how to manage it all.
  • ** Hillside has already purchased a lifetime access pass to this upcoming summit, so no pressure to watch everything within a 24-hour window. We’ll pass on the login details once the summit has ended.

Christmas Staff Social (17:00 onwards)

With the help of a few of our EA social reps and our admin team, we have some proposals. Many companies are probably securing their Christmas bookings, so we should decide soon. Our budget is $16,000 for the Christmas social. Depending on the final choice, we might need to contribute. Please take a look and make a vote on the options. We will send out a poll in the WhatsApp chat soon.

Options:

  • Cooshti in Wan Chai with canapés and free-flow
  • Alto Rooftop Bar and Restaurant in Causeway Bay with canapés and free-flow

Friday was requested by the heavy drinkers, we will check to see which dates are available.

Upcoming Dates
Please check our internal calendar below. We might forget to remind everyone of odd dates. We will continue to add events as soon as they're confirmed. Here's the full 2024/25 Calendar.
