We are now entering rainstorm and typhoon season, so a reminder of key procedures.
Typhoons are typically more predictable, and we will move to online mode where needed.
Rainstorms can be more sudden. In the event of a Red or Black Rainstorm during the session:
- Children will remain in class under staff supervision until conditions improve or the session ends.
- Parents may choose to collect their child from school.
- School buses will not operate unless the signal is lowered to Amber.
- SLT will communicate updates via the ESF App.
- Teachers and EAs remain with children in class.
- Floaters and admin act as ushers for collection.
- Admin tracks collections and bus status carefully.
- Flexibility to combine groups as numbers reduce.
- Snacks (e.g. biscuits) will be available if delays occur.
I’ve updated the Weather Day Online Learning Template following our discussions.
Our approach is to keep things simple, flexible, and aligned with ESF expectations around continuity of learning during closures.
Key elements include:
- SLT communication: Weather alert and holding message sent early
- Live (synchronous) Zoom touchpoints led by class teams (e.g. circle time, story)
- Home learning shared by class teachers via a slide deck
- Chinese sessions led by Chinese teachers on non-contact days
- Up to three sessions/recordings to support engagement
Suggestion:
It may be helpful to pre-record your stories/circle times as backup, in case live Zooms are not possible on the day. Please reach out to SLT if you prefer to pre-record and cover times.
